Fallout - vault boy pumpkin

Description

I've had a tradition for years of carving a Homestar Runner pumpkin every year (using the templates the website so graciously provides), but since the website hasn't updated all year (unless you count April Fool's Day, which I don't) I felt it just wasn't relevant enough to my life to warrant that.

So I made this. With the release of Fallout: New Vegas, I have naturally been playing a lot of Fallout. So I printed out a big picture of Vault Boy and went at it with my Fiskars craft knife. This is the first time I've used the scraping technique instead of just carving straight through the pumpkin and making holes... so it's pretty uneven. In the middle it's REALLY thin because my brother scraped it out for me and he accidentally focused on that area a bit too much... that was such a tedious part to take the skin off of D: But I'm happy with the end result.

(papercraft in picture is from cubeecraft.com)

EDIT: If you're thinking of doing this, be careful and don't scrape it too thin. In fact, I wouldn't bother to scrape the inside at all to light it up... making it glow is not worth it unless you're carving it ON Halloween. My pumpkin started rotting within 24 hours, and the design died just as quickly. At first I just joked it was a ghoulified Vault Boy, but soon enough I couldn't even make that joke. So... if you want to be able to display this on Halloween, be careful. And carve it as close to Halloween as possible.
